Did you know there are mangroves in the Rio Baru?

Did you know there are mangroves in the Rio Baru? There are actually 4 types! Five, if you consider Buttonwood Mangroves as a type of mangroves (some are saying Buttonwoods don’t qualify as mangroves anymore). Back in the late 80’s Hurricane Juana came through Costa Rica and left a path of destruction. The hurricane washed out the river mouth of the Rio Baru along with a huge and beautiful Red Mangrove estuary. For years, mangroves did not exist on the rio Baru. About 10 years ago, they started regrowing in the river mouth, with and without the help of humans. Now, they are thriving and happy and growing strong! When we paddle on the rio Baru, we take our time to show you the amazing wildlife and beauty that surrounds our little beach town, Dominical, Costa Rica.
