Here are some directions from Dominical to local waterfalls and rivers.
ECO-CHANTALES WATERFALL - Turn left out of Dominical Town onto Highway 34 north and cross over the Rio Baru Bridge. Make a right onto route 243 (road to San Isidro). Drive about 15 minutes until you see signs for Eco-Chontales on your left. This is the entrance to San Juan del Dios. Turn left there and follow the signs about 10 kilometers through the beautiful countryside. Just keep following signs for Eco-Chantales. You will have to cross over 2 old fashioned hammock bridges on this trip! Once at Eco-Chantales, you will have a 5,000 colones entrance fee. The hike is about 900 meters steep down to the waterfall. EL PAVON WATERFALL AND TILAPIA FARM - Head south, pass Uvita and Ojochal. You’ll see the sign for the town Punta Mala on the highway, keep an eye out for a bus stop on your left. Turn Left after the bus stop (before the bridge). There is a big sign that says Tilapias de Pavon. Follow the dirt road 4 kilometers. Pass the 1st Tilapia Farm that is on your left (the waterfall and food are better at the 2 tilapia farm - El Pavon). Continue to the Tilapia El Pavon. It’s on your right. Park at the restaurant and walk down to the waterfall. After, if you are hungry, you can fish for Tilapia and have them cook you an amazing plate. This trip is about 40 minutes from Dominical. UVITA WATERFALL - Drive south to Uvita. In Uvita, make left at the Banco de Costa Rica. Follow road until you see sign for Cascada Verde on your left. The parking lot for the waterfall is on your right after the Cascada Verde Hostel entrance. You will have to pay 2,000 colones to park. https://g.co/kgs/1KHR1ag
POZA AZUL SWIMMING HOLE in Dominicalito - Drive south about 3 miles until you see the entrance to Dominicalito town (there is a bus stop on the left). Drive through the small town and over a bridge and continue to your right. About 200 feet up the hill is the swimming hole Posa Azul. Park on the left and Do Not Leave any valuables in your car. NAUYACA WATERFALLS - Turn left out of Dominical Town onto Highway 34 north and cross over the Rio Baru Bridge. Make a right onto route 243 (road to San Isidro). Drive about 10 minutes and you’ll see a bamboo furniture shop and fruit stand on your right. The Nauyaca Office is just after that on the right. SAN LUIS WATERFALL -Turn right out of Dominical town and head south. Once you see Rancho La Merced on your right (just before entering Uvita), you will see a left turn towards San Josecito. Drive up the paved road that turns into 4x4 only dirt road eventually, for about 25 minutes. You’ll come to a T where Don Emilio’s Coffee farm is (great place to stop). Make a left and drive another 10-15 minutes until you see the waterfall in the distance on your right. You can see this magical waterfall from the road or hike closer to get almost underneath. The hike is intermediate with bolder climbing involved. On your way home, stop at the Tilapia Farm nearby for some amazing fresh caught fish! https://maps.app.goo.gl/GCoUkNbEnGokLWQG7
BAMBOO FOREST RIVER BEACH - This is a calm, cool area to escape the heat and dip into the crystal clear Uvita River. Bring a snorkel and a float! https://maps.app.goo.gl/GT1nN1DtW8BFBFS59
HIDDEN POOLS/SLIDES AND WATERFALL UVITA - This magical place can only be accessed during the dry season. You will park at the Uvita Info Center on the road and cross the river and walk about 500 meters to the entrance of the pools. Don’t take the risk and cross the river in your car….. walk!
